PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of the CalWORKs Program is regardless of their socio-economic status or personal circumstances, a CalWORKs student is entitled to same quality of education and “college experience” as any other general population student.
-
CalWORKs maintains confidentiality ensuring students are not identified or unfairly singled out in any way based on their CalWORKs status and provides students with a friendly and comfortable office environment to visit.
-
The Program is based on the belief that higher education and training is the true path to realize family self-sufficiency and supports student-led families in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals.
-
The CalWORKs Program supports the Orange Coast College mission by encouraging personal development, individual and parental responsibility, as well as workforce preparation through attainment of a career or technical certificate and/or transfer to a four-year university.
-
Repeatedly, CalWORKs student alumni comment on how the support of the campus Program played an integral part transforming their lives and ability to be self-sufficient and provide economic security for their families.
