John Hall is a seasoned filmmaker with a distinguished career spanning over 30 years. As a cinematographer on 16 independent feature films and a key collaborator on over 75 projects as a camera assistant, gaffer, and stop-motion animator, John has built an impressive and diverse portfolio. His career highlights include working alongside critically acclaimed cinematographers such as Andrzej Sekula (Pulp Fiction, American Psycho), David Klein, ASC (The Book of Boba Fett, Homeland), and Chris Duddy (Titanic, The Sum of All Fears).
John earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production with an emphasis in cinematography from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. He went on to complete his Master of Fine Arts in Film Production at Asbury University, further honing his expertise in the art and science of filmmaking.
With over 19 years of experience as a film production and cinematography instructor, John is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of filmmakers. He teaches Film Production 1 and Film Production 2 at Orange Coast College, blending professional insights with hands-on learning. Through his partnership with Load Bearing Studios, he continues to work on music videos and commercial projects, bringing his real-world experience into the classroom.
