Athletic Training Level 1

Description

The Athletic Training Cerfiticate provides an educational and practical foundation for students interested in athletic training, physical therapy, physical therapy assistant, and physical therapy aide. The Athletic Training Certificate objective is to enable students to develop a strong foundation in Kinesiology and Athletic Training. The theoretical knowledge, laboratory, and clinical experience skills required by students in this program will also enhance their general understanding in the fitness and physical therapy industry.

Fast Facts

  • To become a certified athletic trainer, you must graduate from a CAATE accredited program. Orange Coast College offers a transfer pathway into these types of programs.
  • We have 3 full-time certified athletic trainers who provide health care coverage to 25 CCCAA intercollegiate athletic teams.
  • The facility serves as a clinical site for Cal State Fullerton, Chapman University, and Cal State Long Beach.
  • Orange Coast College's Sports Medicine team includes a local surgeon and physical therapy clinic. Students involved in the Sports Medicine Club and who are completing the Athletic Training Certificate have the opportunity to work alongside these off-campus affiliates as an additional clinical experience.
  • Participants in the Sports Medicine Club and those students who complete the Athletic Training Certificate are eligible to eligible to:
    • apply to internships off campus that offer paid or unpaid positions
    • receive mentorship from faculty, staff, and affiliates
    • earn college credit
  • Roughly half of the students who pursue opportunities through the Internship Experience acquire paid positions in their field of study.
